Warwickshire Secure Yates, Garton, Jani and Malik on New Two-Year Deals
Warwickshire have extended the contracts of Rob Yates, George Garton, Vansh Jani and Zen Malik for another two years. BBC Sport reported the four agreements as the county prepares to return to County Championship action following the group stages of its two domestic limited-overs competitions.
Watch the highlights:
Head coach Ian Westwood described Yates as an asset across all three formats and highlighted the continued development shown by the other three players. He said Malik had demonstrated both his quality and willingness to improve, while Garton continued to show that he could play an important role. Westwood also pointed to Jani's potential and said Warwickshire were eager to see how far he could progress with the club.
Yates, 26, has been part of Warwickshire's first team since making his breakthrough in 2019. The opener has accumulated 4,547 first-class runs and scored 15 centuries. Although established primarily for his batting, he has also been used increasingly as an off-spinner in both red-ball and white-ball matches, contributing to the three-format value cited by Westwood.
Garton joined Warwickshire from Sussex before the 2025 season. The 29-year-old former England T20 all-rounder scored his first century for the Bears in July, reaching the landmark in a One-Day Cup match against eventual semi-finalists Nottinghamshire. His opportunities have also been affected by injury, but the new contract gives him more time to establish a sustained role.
Malik, 28, signed his first Warwickshire contract in 2024. The Stoke-born batter produced his best performance for the club in June, scoring 99 from 46 balls to win the Bears-Pears T20 derby against Worcestershire at Edgbaston. Jani, the youngest member of the renewed group at 21, has made his own breakthrough this summer in the One-Day Cup.
The Middlesex-born Jani scored 394 runs across eight innings in that competition, including four half-centuries. Warwickshire finished fourth in both their One-Day Cup and T20 groups. They sit third in the County Championship before red-ball cricket resumes on Thursday, when they host Sussex at Edgbaston. The four extensions therefore retain a mix of established production and recent form as the club moves into the next phase of its season.
