Northamptonshire Extend Justin Broad's Contract Through 2030

Northamptonshire have extended all-rounder Justin Broad's contract through 2030, securing the future of a player the county views as part of its leadership group. BBC Sport reported the new agreement on Tuesday, with the 26-year-old committing to a longer stay after establishing himself across Northamptonshire's red-ball and white-ball teams.

Broad joined Northamptonshire in 2023 and has scored more than 2,000 runs for the county in all formats, according to the BBC report. The South African-born player earned his first professional deal after impressing for the second XI and has also represented Germany at international level. His progress has brought increased responsibility as well as a longer contract.

Northamptonshire appointed Broad as their T20 vice-captain earlier in 2026. His season has since been cut short by a lower back injury, and he has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign. The contract extension therefore represents a long-term commitment from the club while the all-rounder continues his recovery.

Head coach Darren Lehmann said Broad was becoming an important player across every format and identified him as one of the leaders within Northamptonshire's developing group. Broad, meanwhile, acknowledged that 2026 had been difficult but said he was grateful for the faith shown by the club and coach. He also expressed his ambition to help Northamptonshire win more trophies while continuing to develop under the coaching staff.

The deal follows a productive 2025 season that accelerated Broad's rise. In announcing an earlier extension, Northamptonshire said he had passed 1,100 runs for the club, averaged just under 50 in that season's County Championship and made consecutive scores of 150 or more. His career-best 171 against Derbyshire was accompanied by useful bowling contributions across the formats.

Broad also delivered in short-form cricket during that campaign, including an unbeaten 61 on Finals Day, while adapting to several positions in the batting order. The latest agreement carries his association with Northamptonshire well beyond the injury-hit 2026 season and gives the county continuity around a player it sees contributing with the bat, the ball and in leadership roles.
