Madushanka takes five as Sri Lanka beat Pakistan to eliminate England
Dilshan Madushanka took five wickets as Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by eight wickets in Lahore. The result ended England’s hopes of reaching the ODI tri-series final.

Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by eight wickets on Tuesday, eliminating England from the ODI tri-series final race, the Guardian reported. Dilshan Madushanka took five wickets for 34 as Pakistan were dismissed for 110 at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium, with the hosts' innings lasting only 25.3 overs according to the Pakistan Cricket Board scorecard.

Watch the highlights:

Madushanka removed Fakhar Zaman and Saad Baig before returning to account for Arafat Minhas, Haris Rauf and captain Shaheen Shah Afridi. His 8.3 overs included a maiden. Pakistan lost their first wicket at 11 and were three down for 46, leaving the middle order to rebuild after Sri Lanka chose to field.

That recovery failed to materialise. The PCB scorecard shows Pakistan falling from 61 for three to 64 for six as Salman Ali Agha, Babar Azam and Shadab Khan departed. Babar's 29 from 33 deliveries was the highest score of the innings. Hasan Nawaz contributed 17, while Afridi made 15 before becoming the final batter dismissed.

News 1st reported that Sahan Arachchige supported Madushanka with two wickets for 24, while Asitha Fernando, Eshan Malinga and Dunith Wellalage took one apiece. All five bowlers used therefore claimed a wicket. Pakistan's total left Sri Lanka needing only 111 from their scheduled 50 overs, a markedly different assignment from their previous high-scoring meeting with England.

The Associated Press reported before the match that Sri Lanka had retained the side that beat England in Rawalpindi, where the two teams combined for 859 runs. Pakistan made two changes: Maaz Sadaqat replaced Saim Ayub, who had been released from the squad, while Naseem Shah returned after recovering from a finger injury and took Razaullah's place.

Pakistan had already booked their final berth with three successive victories, including a one-wicket win over England on Sunday, according to AP. Sri Lanka had lost the tournament opener to Pakistan by 37 runs before beating England. The published tournament schedule places Sri Lanka's remaining league match against England in Lahore on Thursday, October 29, with the final at the same venue on Saturday, October 31.
