Rain interrupts India's chase at 113-7 in second ODI against New Zealand
Rain interrupted India's pursuit of 135 in the second one-day international against New Zealand in Wellington on Saturday, with the visitors 113 for seven after 26 overs. Outlook India's live coverage reported that KL Rahul remained at the crease as play stopped, leaving the match unresolved at the latest confirmed update.
Watch the highlights:
The chase had become difficult despite the modest target. Shubman Gill was dismissed for a first-ball duck, Virat Kohli made seven and Rohit Sharma scored 23. India later lost Shreyas Iyer, Naman Dhir and Anshul Kamboj as New Zealand kept taking wickets. At the stoppage, India still needed 22 runs, with three wickets remaining.
Earlier, Gurnoor Brar had taken four for 30 from 10 overs as India dismissed New Zealand for 134 in 41 overs. PTI's innings report, carried by Rediff, described those figures as his best in ODI cricket. His four wickets accounted for the largest share of the dismissals, with three other Indian bowlers each taking two in a combined bowling effort.
Auqib Nabi finished with two for 31 and Anshul Kamboj took two for 25, while Axar Patel also claimed two wickets. Daryl Mitchell's 55 was New Zealand's highest score, followed by Mitchell Santner's 31. Together, the pair contributed 86 of the home side's 134 runs, but New Zealand were unable to bat through their allocation.
India entered the game leading the five-match series 1-0. The ICC's match listing records a five-wicket victory under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in the opener at Eden Park in Auckland on November 4. New Zealand had been bowled out for 185 in that match, with India reaching 143 for five in their rain-affected reply.
Weather had already delayed the Wellington match and reduced it to 47 overs per side. Outlook reported a DLS par score of 109 when the later interruption arrived, putting India four runs ahead of that mark. That position was not a confirmed result; the report still listed rain-stopped play.
