Bohannon's unbeaten 125 steadies Lancashire against Durham

Josh Bohannon finished unbeaten on 125 as Lancashire reached 267-5 against Durham at Old Trafford on Saturday. The ECB Reporters' Network report carried by BBC Sport said it was his first century since June 2025. Lancashire still trailed Durham's first-innings 493 by 226 runs.

Bohannon and Matthew Hurst added 161 after Lancashire slipped to 87-4. Hurst made 57 before Callum Parkinson bowled him, leaving Ben Walkden to accompany Bohannon through to stumps. Parkinson ended with figures of 3-63 from 37 overs, while Lancashire collected their first batting bonus point since May during the evening session.

The recovery followed another difficult morning for the home side. Keaton Jennings and Marcus Harris fell to Parkinson, and Michael Jones was run out. Brydon Carse then dismissed Rocky Flintoff early in the afternoon before Bohannon and Hurst stabilised the innings.

Durham's advantage had been established on the opening day, when Emilio Gay made 141 and the visitors reached 355-5. The county's own report said Gay's hundred was his fourth in ten Championship innings this season. Durham had already won the Division Two title but continued to build a substantial total, with Gay sharing major partnerships with Ben McKinney and Mayank Agarwal.

McKinney passed 1,000 Championship runs for the season during a second-wicket stand of 114 with Gay, according to Durham's report. Agarwal subsequently contributed 66, with his partnership alongside Gay worth 168. Lancashire took three wickets in the evening, including two for Noman Ali, but Ollie Robinson and Kasey Aldridge stayed together until the close to keep Durham in a strong position.

The ECB fixture listing places the match across 24-27 September at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester, with Durham having chosen to bat after winning the toss. Saturday's play was therefore the third day of the four-day contest.

Bohannon's century came from 217 balls, with seven boundaries. His innings and the stand with Hurst reduced Lancashire's deficit, but Durham retained a substantial first-innings lead heading into the scheduled final day.
