The Washington Wizards did not make many headlines when they acquired Jaden Hardy as part of the trade that sent Anthony Davis to Dallas. Three months into his stint in Washington, the move is looking increasingly shrewd.

Hardy, a former second-round selection, spent his first three professional seasons with the Mavericks. Head coach Brian Keefe has been quick to identify what makes Hardy effective. "He can score — you can see that," Keefe said. "Has an ability to create his own shot, good catch-and-shoot three-point shooter, knows how to get in the paint and create. He's got a knack for that. We didn't teach him that."

That self-creation ability has proven particularly valuable for a Wizards team still searching for an identity in the early stages of a deliberate rebuild. When plays break down or the shot clock winds down, Hardy has shown the confidence to take — and make — difficult attempts. For a young roster without an established go-to option, that shot-making instinct carries real value.

In Dallas, Hardy rarely had the rhythm that comes with regular opportunity. In Washington, the structure of his role has given him the consistency to build confidence and deliver results.

There are also signs of maturation in his overall game. The former McDonald's All-American is choosing his moments more carefully, reducing forced shots and making smarter decisions when defences collapse on him. The playmaking is not yet a strength, but the trajectory is positive.

At 23 years old, Hardy fits Washington's timeline. He is young enough to grow with the core and experienced enough to contribute now. The central question for the Wizards' brain trust is simple: can he sustain this level of production across a full season and continue expanding his game?
