Timber, Eze and Saka score as Arsenal beat Lille 3-0
Arsenal beat Lille 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, October 13, with Jurriën Timber, Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka scoring in the second half. The result gave Mikel Arteta’s side six points from their opening two Champions League matches, while Lille remained without a point, according to Football365’s match coverage.
Watch the highlights:
Arteta began with Saka, Martin Ødegaard and Kai Havertz among the substitutes. The starting team included Viktor Gyökeres in attack, with Eze and Noni Madueke also selected, while Bruno Guimarães and Declan Rice were in midfield. Arseblog’s published team sheet confirmed those selections, as well as David Raya in goal and Timber at right-back.
Arsenal could not turn their first-half opportunities into a lead. AS reported that Guimarães and Mikel Merino both had chances, with Lille goalkeeper Berke Özer denying the Brazilian before the interval. The teams reached half-time level despite the home side creating the clearer openings, leaving Arsenal still searching for a breakthrough.
Lille had an effort disallowed before the break when Ayase Ueda finished after a Nabil Bentaleb shot was deflected and touched by Hákon Haraldsson. Football365 reported that a video review confirmed the offside decision. Arsenal then increased the pressure after half-time, winning three successive corners early in the second period without finding a goal.
Timber finally opened the scoring in the 64th minute. Receiving a pass from Madueke inside the penalty area, he controlled the ball past Benjamin André and lifted his finish over Özer from a tight angle. Arteta then introduced Saka, Ødegaard and Havertz together, replacing Madueke, Merino and Gyökeres, as recorded in Tribuna’s match timeline.
Saka quickly set up Eze for the second goal, then scored after Ødegaard and Havertz combined, AS reported. The goals arrived in the 67th and 71st minutes. Lille later brought on former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud to a standing ovation. Football365 lists Arsenal’s next European fixture as a visit to Bayern Munich on October 21, with Lille hosting Galatasaray that evening.
