Wrexham Eke Past Stoke to Reignite Play-Off Hopes with Crucial Victory
Wrexham secured a vital three points against Stoke City on Friday, moving within striking distance of the Championship play-off places with a determined performance at the bet365 Stadium.

Wrexham's remarkable journey toward Championship survival and promotion contention continued on Friday as Phil Parkinson's side claimed a crucial 2-1 victory over Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium. The win moves Wrexham within touching distance of the play-off places, keeping their ambitions alive in what has been a remarkable season for the Welsh club since their return to the second tier.

Watch the highlights:

The match-winning moment came in the 78th minute when Paul Mullin, Wrexham's talismanic striker, coolly converted a penalty after being brought down in the box. The goal sparked wild celebrations among the 2,000+ traveling Wrexham supporters who had made the journey to Staffordshire. Mullin's 18th league goal of the season showcased the composure that has made him such a vital asset for Parkinson's men this campaign.

Wrexham had taken the lead in the 23rd minute through an own goal from Stoke defender Bonham, who inadvertently headed into his own net following a dangerous cross from the left flank. Stoke equalized against the run of play in the 55th minute when Johnson finished past the goalkeeper after a swift counter-attack, momentarily silencing the away support.

"The character these players show is incredible," Parkinson said in his post-match press conference. "We've spoken all season about taking it one game at a time, and tonight we showed that mentality again. The supporters were magnificent, and to give them three points away from home means everything."

The victory marks Wrexham's fourth consecutive away win, a run that has seen them collect 15 points from their last five road fixtures. With just eight matches remaining in the season, Wrexham sit seventh in the table, just three points behind sixth-placed Coventry City who currently occupy the final play-off berth.

Stoke City, under new management following the departure of their previous head coach, remain in 14th place and appear unlikely to challenge for either end of the table in the closing stages of the season. The Potters have now lost four of their last six home matches, a concerning trend for a club with aspirations of returning to Premier League contention.
