Toulouse Defeat Hull KR 32-12 to Dent Champions' Top-Four Push
Toulouse beat Hull KR 32-12 in Super League on Saturday, damaging the defending champions' push for a top-four finish. BBC Sport reported that the result was Hull KR's second home defeat in five days and left the Robins sixth in the standings, when a victory would have moved them up to fourth.
Watch the highlights:
The teams were level 6-6 at halftime. Toulouse opened the scoring in the 30th minute after Jack Broadbent missed a tackle and Mathieu Jussaume crossed for the visitors. Hull KR responded five minutes later when Peta Hiku broke through and sent captain Elliot Minchella under the posts. A second Robins try was then disallowed for obstruction by Hiku.
Toulouse regained the lead when Benjamin Laguerre broke down the left and passed inside for Romeo Tropis to score beneath the posts. The visitors extended their advantage in the 62nd minute, with video referee James Vella awarding a try to Anthony Marion after he forced his way over despite two tackles.
Paul Ulberg added another Toulouse try four minutes later after the French side drew in Hull KR's defence before moving the ball to the right. Tropis scored his second in the 71st minute, and Luke Polselli completed Toulouse's six-try total by touching down his own kick beneath the posts with three minutes remaining. Benjamin Rouge converted four of the visitors' tries.
Louix Gorman scored Hull KR's second try on the left in the final minute, but it did not affect the outcome. The Robins finished with two tries and two goals from Rhyse Martin. BBC Sport described their performance as error-strewn, with repeated mistakes and penalties proving costly during a third match in 10 days.
Hull KR coach Willie Peters told BBC Radio Humberside that his team was tired but credited Toulouse for running hard and playing well. He also confirmed that James Batchelor had injured a hamstring, Ryan Hampshire had broken a wrist and Dean Hadley had hurt his groin. The defeat leaves Hull KR facing the possibility of playing away in the first round of the playoffs next month.
