Seahawks Rally Past Patriots 13-10 After Three Fourth-Quarter Interceptions

The Seattle Seahawks overcame an early injury to starting quarterback Sam Darnold and intercepted Drake Maye three times in the fourth quarter to beat the New England Patriots 13-10 on Wednesday night. According to an agency report published by The Guardian, backup quarterback Drew Lock directed two late scoring drives as Seattle erased a 10-0 deficit in the Week 1 Super Bowl rematch.

Darnold was hurt on Seattle’s opening possession after being sacked by Dre’Mont Jones on third down. The quarterback came up limping with a hip injury, went into the sideline medical tent and then returned to the locker room before the Seahawks’ next drive. Lock took over after having attempted only three passes during the previous season.

Neither offense established much rhythm in the first half. New England scored the only points before the break after Seattle cornerback Josh Jobe was called for pass interference against offseason acquisition AJ Brown on a deep flea-flicker. Maye then found rookie Eli Raridon for a two-yard touchdown, giving the Patriots a 7-0 lead.

New England added to its advantage after halftime when Chazz Surratt was penalized for roughing the punter. Andy Borregales converted a 50-yard field goal to make it 10-0. Seattle responded with a field goal in the third quarter but still entered the final period trailing by seven, with its offense having produced little under Lock.

The game changed after Nehemiah Pritchett intercepted Maye. Facing fourth-and-1, Lock connected with Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 45-yard touchdown that tied the score. Julian Love picked off Maye on New England’s next possession, and Jason Myers followed with a 26-yard field goal that put Seattle ahead 13-10.

Maye recovered enough to take the Patriots into position for a possible tying or go-ahead score in the final minute. Jobe ended that threat with a toe-tapping interception in the end zone, Seattle’s third pick of the quarter. The victory completed a dramatic banner-raising night for the Seahawks, while the extent of Darnold’s hip injury was not detailed in the report.
