Ravens Safety Kyle Hamilton Excited to Reunite With Former Notre Dame Coach Mike Mickens
Baltimore Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton has found a familiar face in a new place this offseason, and he could not be happier about it. The former Notre Dame star spoke this week about his excitement working with new pass game coordinator and secondary coach Mike Mickens, drawing directly on their two years together in South Bend to explain what makes his former college position coach special.
Yes, I was actually at Notre Dame two out of three years with Mike Mickens. He is a great coach. He is very technique-oriented, and I think that is somewhat rare in this league at defensive back, Hamilton said. A lot of times you get a guy who can explain the install and make sure you are going out and running the right plays, but not actually out there showing you what to do in press coverage versus playing off, where your feet go and your hands go. And I think he is really good with that stuff.
Mickens played the game at a high level himself, and Hamilton believes that background translates directly to how he coaches. He has helped contribute to Notre Dame putting some decent defensive backs out in recent years, and in recruiting he is personable and can relate. He played the game at a high level, and he is a good coach. I am just happy to have him and have some familiarity.
The familiarity Hamilton references carries real weight for a Ravens secondary that is undergoing significant change this offseason. With several new faces and a reshaped defensive staff, continuity has become a genuine asset. Rather than spending the early months of the installation process building chemistry from scratch, Hamilton can hit the ground running with a coach whose methods he already knows well.
Mickens technique-driven approach emphasizes the granular details of coverage work, an emphasis that Hamilton believes will benefit the entire unit as Baltimore builds toward the 2026 season. With OTAs and training camp still ahead, the Ravens defensive backfield has a head start others in the division may not enjoy.
For a player entering his fourth NFL season, having a trusted technical resource inside the building is no small thing. The Ravens continue their offseason program with installation work ongoing, and Hamilton will be a central figure in whatever that secondary becomes next season.
