Mane Seals Al-Nassr Comeback After Ronaldo Half-Time Substitution

Sadio Mane completed a striking second-half comeback for Al-Nassr after Cristiano Ronaldo was substituted at half-time with the Saudi Pro League champions two goals behind against Al-Ettifaq. BBC Sport reported that Mane scored twice, including the added-time winner, as Ange Postecoglou's 10-man side maintained its perfect start to the league season.

Al-Nassr's problems began after only 12 minutes on Tuesday when goalkeeper Bento was sent off. Al-Ettifaq capitalised and carried a two-goal advantage into the interval. Ronaldo, making his first start since the World Cup, showed his frustration as he left the field at half-time and was then replaced when Postecoglou reshaped the team for the second period.

The recovery came late. Mane and Abdulelah Al Amri scored within three minutes of each other to bring Al-Nassr level with 13 minutes remaining. Mane, the former Liverpool forward, then struck again in added time to secure the win despite Al-Nassr having played most of the match with 10 men.

Postecoglou said after the match that the decision to remove Ronaldo formed part of a different tactical approach. He explained that he believed the players introduced from the bench could influence the game and praised the contribution of every substitute. The coach also noted that Ronaldo had not played for a long period, while describing the 41-year-old's first-half performance positively.

The result gave Al-Nassr three victories from their opening three league matches and moved the defending champions to the top of the table. It also continued a winning start under Postecoglou, who took charge of the club last month. The former Tottenham manager had most recently coached Nottingham Forest, where his tenure ended last October after 39 days.

For Al-Nassr, the immediate significance lies in turning a match shaped by an early red card and a two-goal deficit into another league victory. Mane supplied the decisive attacking contribution, while Postecoglou's half-time changes were followed by three second-half goals and a result that preserved the club's flawless opening record.
