Lauren Hemp winner lifts Manchester City past London City Lionesses
Lauren Hemp scored two minutes after London City Lionesses equalised to secure a 2-1 Manchester City victory in the Women’s Super League.

Lauren Hemp scored the decisive goal as Manchester City beat London City Lionesses 2-1 on Sunday, November 1, returning to the top of the Women’s Super League at the conclusion of their match. City’s official report put them on 22 points, six ahead of their opponents, with other results still to come.

Watch the highlights:

The hosts created early problems for the defending champions, but neither side scored before half-time. According to City’s account, Mary Earps pushed Rebecca Knaak’s header against the post and prevented it crossing the line. Jade Rose then made a goal-line block against Isobel Goodwin before producing another important intervention against Grace Geyoro after the interval.

Sky Sports’ match commentary recorded the breakthrough in the 53rd minute, when Khadija Shaw finished with her right foot after a through ball from Hemp. City subsequently introduced Mary Fowler and Sam Coffey in the 59th minute. Fowler soon created another opening for Shaw, whose effort struck the right post in the 68th minute.

London City drew level four minutes later. Mapi León supplied the corner and Jana Fernández headed into the far side of the goal to make it 1-1. The equaliser did not last: Fowler crossed for Hemp, who finished left-footed from inside the penalty area in the 74th minute to restore the visitors’ advantage.

The home side continued searching for another equaliser. Sky’s commentary logged blocked attempts from Geyoro and Fernández, followed by a shot wide from Daniëlle van de Donk. Substitute Delphine Cascarino later tested Ayaka Yamashita, but the goalkeeper saved in the 88th minute. City remained ahead through the closing stages and four announced minutes of added time.

City said the result extended their unbeaten sequence across all competitions to 14 matches and ended London City’s nine-game unbeaten run. Coffey’s substitute appearance also marked her return from injury, while Knaak completed her first full match of the season. City’s next league fixture is at home to West Ham on Saturday, November 7, with kick-off at the Joie Stadium scheduled for 12:45 UK time.
