Kane double leads England to 3-0 win over Czech Republic
Harry Kane scored twice as England defeated the Czech Republic 3-0 at Wembley in the Nations League on Tuesday, marking his record-equalling 125th international appearance with a victory. According to BBC Sport’s live match reporting, the captain also supplied the cross that Vladimir Coufal turned into his own net for England’s opening goal. Kane’s double took his England scoring total to 91.
Watch the highlights:
The appearance brought Kane level with Peter Shilton at the top of the England men’s caps list. His contribution went beyond that milestone: after helping to create the breakthrough, he finished a first-half move involving Elliot Anderson and Morgan Rogers to put Thomas Tuchel’s side two goals ahead before the interval. England retained that advantage through to half-time.
Anderson began the move for Kane’s first goal with a long pass from the centre towards Rogers on the right. Rogers sent the ball into the penalty area with his first touch, and Kane finished to register his 90th international goal. Anderson had also been presented with an earlier shooting opportunity by Rogers but put that effort off target.
Kane threatened again after the restart, striking the crossbar after a move involving Myles Lewis-Skelly and Trent Alexander-Arnold. He then added England’s third with a header at the far post from Lewis Hall’s corner. Czech goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek got a hand to the ball but could not prevent it going in, leaving England with a three-goal cushion.
Tuchel subsequently changed several members of his side. James Garner and Jarrad Branthwaite replaced Anderson and Marc Guehi, while Rio Ngumoha and Morgan Gibbs-White came on for Hall and Jude Bellingham. Kane was later replaced by Dominic Calvert-Lewin without completing a hat-trick. The Czech Republic offered a late threat through substitute Roman Macek, whose long-range attempt went wide of Jordan Pickford’s goal.
There was one consequence for England’s next fixture: Lewis-Skelly received a yellow card that, BBC Sport reported, will rule him out of the Nations League meeting with Croatia on 12 November through suspension. England nevertheless completed another win after their 7-0 victory over Croatia, with Kane’s two finishes and Coufal’s own goal accounting for the scoring at Wembley.
