Harry Kane equals Peter Shilton's England record with 125th cap
Harry Kane has drawn level with Peter Shilton as England men's most-capped player after making his 125th appearance against the Czech Republic.

Harry Kane has matched Peter Shilton's England men's appearance record, winning his 125th cap against the Czech Republic in the Nations League at Wembley on Tuesday. BBC Sport reported that the England captain reached the milestone at 33, adding a share of the appearances record to his position as the national team's leading goalscorer.

Watch the highlights:

Kane made his senior England debut in a 4-0 victory over Lithuania at Wembley in March 2015, scoring just 79 seconds after coming on. Before Tuesday's match, he had accumulated 89 international goals, putting him 36 ahead of Wayne Rooney's total of 53. Rooney scored those goals across 120 appearances for the national team.

The latest landmark follows another productive spell for Kane. According to BBC Sport, his two goals in Saturday's 7-0 win in Croatia took him to 11 goals in 12 England matches during the calendar year. He had also scored in six successive England away games, one short of the seven-match sequence achieved by Tom Finney between 1946 and 1948.

Shilton's appearance record had stood for 36 years before Kane drew level. The striker's route to that milestone included early setbacks at club level: Arsenal released him as a youngster, while Watford also passed on signing him. Tottenham subsequently gave him an opportunity, and he signed scholarship terms on his 16th birthday in July 2009.

Kane gained experience through loan spells at Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich and Leicester before establishing himself at Tottenham. His first Premier League start for Spurs came against Sunderland in April 2014, when he scored. He eventually left as the club's record scorer, having registered 280 goals in 435 appearances and won three Premier League Golden Boots.

His move to Bayern Munich in 2023 brought a new stage to that career. BBC Sport's profile reported 152 goals in 154 Bayern appearances, alongside three Bundesliga Golden Boots, two German league titles and a German Cup. Tuesday's England appearance now places Kane alongside Shilton on caps, rather than beyond him, with the men's record shared at 125.
