Djurgardens Agree Record National League Fee for Boreham Wood Winger Abdulmalik

Djurgardens have agreed a National League-record fee to sign Boreham Wood winger Abdul Abdulmalik, according to BBC Sport. The fee is thought to be more than £1.5 million, although the precise figure has not been disclosed. The 23-year-old travelled to Sweden to complete a medical after the clubs reached an agreement on Sunday morning.

The reported price would surpass the previous record for a player leaving England's fifth tier. Leicester City paid Fleetwood Town £1 million for Jamie Vardy in 2012, the benchmark that had stood for 14 years. Abdulmalik's transfer is not yet described as complete, with the medical process still under way.

Abdulmalik earned the move after a productive 2025-26 campaign for Boreham Wood. BBC Sport reported that he scored 17 goals and supplied 10 assists as the Hertfordshire club advanced to the National League play-off final. He both scored and created a goal at Wembley, but Boreham Wood narrowly missed out on promotion to League Two. The club did win the National League Cup during the season.

The agreement concludes a transfer process that had continued through the summer. Boreham Wood had previously rejected bids of £1 million and £1.5 million for the former Millwall academy player, according to the BBC. Peterborough United were among the English clubs to show interest. Abdulmalik scored in his final Boreham Wood appearance in mid-August before subsequently making himself unavailable for selection as he sought a move.

Abdulmalik spent time in Millwall's academy and represented England at under-17 level. Millwall released him in 2024, and he later had an unsuccessful trial with Portsmouth. His progress at Boreham Wood, culminating in last season's goal and assist totals, has now put him in position to move into Sweden's top division.

Djurgardens are based in Stockholm and stood fifth in the Allsvenskan at the time of the agreement. The Swedish league runs from April to November, and the club had two games in hand on most of its rivals. BBC Sport reported that Djurgardens remained in contention for European qualification as they moved to add Abdulmalik to their squad.
