All 24 Wednesday Copa del Rey ties postponed after Toledo train crash
The RFEF suspended Wednesday’s entire Copa del Rey programme after at least 68 people were reported killed in a train crash. Thursday’s matches remained unaffected at the time of the report.

Spain's football federation suspended all 24 Copa del Rey matches scheduled for Wednesday after a deadly train collision in Toledo, according to BBC Sport. At least 68 people were reported killed when the trains collided and derailed. The Spanish FA, known as the RFEF, said the postponements were a gesture of solidarity with those affected by the disaster.

Watch the highlights:

More than 500 passengers were travelling on the trains involved in the crash, which happened between Los Yebenes and Urda in the province of Toledo. The death toll was reported as at least 68, rather than a final figure. The federation's decision covered the entire Wednesday cup programme, with every one of the day's scheduled ties suspended as a mark of respect.

Five clubs from Spain's top division had been due to play in those first-round fixtures: Levante, Alaves, Valencia, Celta Vigo and Real Betis. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were not among the teams scheduled to take part at this stage. Those three clubs are due to enter the Copa del Rey at the last-32 stage of the competition.

At the time of BBC Sport's report, Thursday's cup fixtures were still due to go ahead. The RFEF had not announced replacement dates for the 24 postponed matches. The confirmed change to the competition's schedule therefore concerned Wednesday's games, while the dates on which those first-round ties would eventually be played remained unresolved.

Tributes also extended to European competition. A minute's silence took place before Real Madrid's Women's Champions League match away to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, and Madrid's players wore black armbands. In a statement on its website, Real Madrid offered condolences to bereaved families, support to injured passengers and others affected, and backing for the emergency services carrying out rescue work.

Barcelona also issued a message of sympathy, expressing support for the victims' families and friends and wishing those injured a recovery. Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz joined the tributes in a post on X, offering condolences and support to people affected. The messages accompanied the federation's decision to pause the day's domestic cup action in response to the loss of life.
