Madueke scores late winner as Arsenal beat Nottingham Forest 1-0
Noni Madueke came off the bench to secure a 1-0 win for Arsenal at Nottingham Forest. His deflected 80th-minute strike extended a productive run for the winger.

Noni Madueke scored in the 80th minute as Arsenal beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground on Sunday. The half-time substitute settled a Premier League match in which the visitors managed only one shot on target, according to the Guardian's match report, leaving Forest still without a home goal this season.

Watch the highlights:

Madueke received a pass from Declan Rice, moved inside from the left and struck a shot that deflected off Jair Cunha before beating Matz Sels. His intervention ended Arsenal's run of two successive goalless draws on visits to Forest and secured victory after a first half in which neither side registered an attempt on target.

Forest had opportunities to respond. Rice blocked an effort from substitute Chris Wood, Murillo curled a shot wide and Ezri Konsa stopped Liam Delap with a late challenge. Earlier, Kai Havertz had headed over from a Rice free-kick, while Rice himself missed after Martin Odegaard released Jurrien Timber down the right. Forest's resistance lasted until Madueke found the decisive opening.

The goal also continued a productive spell for a player whose league opportunities have been limited. BBC Sport reported that Madueke has started only one Premier League game this season, the 2-1 victory over Leeds before Sunday's match. He also started on the right against Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday and supplied the assist for the opening goal in that win.

With Christos Tzolis sidelined by a hamstring injury suffered while playing for Greece, Arsenal have needed alternatives on the left. Madueke replaced Eberechi Eze at the interval against Forest. Speaking afterwards, Mikel Arteta praised the winger's growing conviction and recent influence on results, while noting that he was contributing on the left despite having played more minutes on the opposite flank.

BBC Sport also reported that Arsenal substitutes have contributed to 26 Premier League goals since the start of last season, more than any other club. Bruno Guimaraes had come off the bench to score the winner against Leeds in their previous league match. Madueke's latest contribution gave Arteta another decisive intervention from a substitute as Arsenal secured all three points.
