Late Drama! Brighton's Last-Minute Leveller Keeps Spurs in Drop Zone
Brighton & Hove Albion rescued a vital point in stoppage time as Georginio Rutter's clinical finish cancelled out Pedro Porro's first-half header to leave Tottenham Hotspur staring relegation in the face.
Watch the highlights:
Tottenham looked set for a crucial victory when Porro nodded home from close range in the 34th minute, powering a flicked header past Bart Verbruggen from a inviting set-piece delivery. The goal, Porro's third of the season, seemed to have put Spurs in control at the Amex Stadium.
However, Brighton's persistence paid off in dramatic fashion. With virtually the last kick of the match, Rutter capitalised on a defensive error from Nicolas Danso, who slipped in the box, allowing the French forward to pounce and fire home from six yards out.
The equaliser sparked jubilant scenes among the home supporters, while Tottenham were left devastated in 17th place, just three points above the relegation zone with crucial matches remaining. For Brighton, the point lifts them further away from danger in 11th position.
Rutter spoke after the match: 'It was a difficult moment for the defender and I was in the right place. The crowd pushed us until the end and we never gave up.' Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou admitted: 'We're running out of time. We need to find answers quickly or face the consequences.'
