Derby end 10-match winless run with second-half comeback against Bolton
Derby County beat Bolton Wanderers 3-1 after scoring twice in the opening four minutes of the second half. John Eustace credited senior players and a change of shape for the turnaround.

Derby County ended a 10-match winless run by coming from behind to beat Bolton Wanderers 3-1 in the Championship on Friday night. BBC Sport reported that two goals in the opening four minutes after half-time transformed the game, before Rhian Brewster added a third in stoppage time. The victory came with head coach John Eustace under pressure following his team's prolonged run without a win.

Watch the highlights:

Ruben Rodrigues had put Bolton ahead before the interval, and Derby's players left the pitch to boos. Ryan Nyambe then brought the home side level with the first goal of his career at the age of 28. Jack Robinson followed with a header to put Derby ahead. The experienced defender had recently joined the club to help address an injury crisis, and his goal completed the early second-half turnaround.

Eustace told BBC Sport that senior players had been the first to speak in the dressing room at half-time. He highlighted Robinson and fellow recent arrival Shane Duffy among those who contributed. The head coach also delivered his own assessment, but said the discussion remained calm rather than becoming heated. He explained that showing excessive emotion in such an important moment would not have helped the players.

A tactical adjustment accompanied those conversations. Eustace said Derby changed their shape because he believed they could threaten Bolton in transition. He rejected the suggestion that the switch represented a final attempt to preserve his position, instead describing it as a change the match required. Brewster's late goal completed the scoring after Derby had overturned their half-time deficit.

The result reminded Eustace of the victories that helped Derby avoid relegation after he took charge during the closing months of the 2024-25 season. That campaign ended with survival on the final day, followed by a challenge for a play-off place last season. He said Friday's performance recalled the determination his players had shown during that earlier fight to stay up.

Despite the relief of ending the winless sequence, Eustace cautioned against getting carried away. He described the past 15 games as challenging for several reasons and said maintaining belief in his approach and squad had been important. His response focused on pride in the players' effort while acknowledging that a long season and further difficult periods remained ahead.
