Contreras leads Brewers past Dodgers for 2-0 NLCS advantage
William Contreras drove in three runs as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-4 on Monday, taking a 2-0 lead in the National League Championship Series. WMTV reported that the catcher supplied the tying home run in the fifth inning and the single that put Milwaukee ahead in the sixth.
Watch the highlights:
The Brewers had already received two important contributions from Contreras before his decisive hit. His first-inning single brought home Brice Turang, and his fifth-inning homer to center erased a 4-3 deficit. When Contreras returned to the plate in the sixth, his single scored David Hamilton, giving Milwaukee a lead it held through the finish.
Los Angeles had taken the initiative early but could not turn its advantages into a victory. According to AS, Christian Yelich delivered a two-run single in the third inning, and Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto lasted only two and two-thirds innings. The Brewers followed their 2-1 win in the opener with another comeback, leaving the visiting team without a win from the first two games in Milwaukee.
The relief pitching gave Milwaukee room to build on that narrow lead. WMTV reported that Dustin May, JoJo Romero, Abner Uribe and Aaron Ashby combined for five hitless innings with seven strikeouts. Turang and Jake Bauers each supplied a run-scoring single in the eighth, turning the Brewers' one-run advantage into the final three-run margin.
Milwaukee finished with 12 hits and scored in five separate innings, according to the final game line. Contreras went 3-for-4 with a run scored, adding a walk to his three RBIs. The Brewers also committed two errors and left 11 runners on base, but their offensive production was enough to secure the second victory.
The Associated Press reported that Milwaukee is seeking its first World Series appearance since 1982. The series now moves to Los Angeles, with Game 3 scheduled for Wednesday, October 14, followed by games on Thursday and Friday. Milwaukee needs two more victories to advance; the Dodgers must win four of the remaining five games to take the best-of-seven series.
