Weir finishes 25th in Ballon d'Or as Scottish awards shortlist is announced
Caroline Weir and Erin Cuthbert are shortlisted for Scotland international player of the year, while Eva Olid is nominated for the coaching award. Winners will be announced on 28 November.

Caroline Weir finished 25th in the women's Ballon d'Or rankings on Monday and was also named among the nominees for the Scottish Women's Football Awards 2026. According to BBC Sport, the Scotland midfielder is shortlisted for the international player award alongside Erin Cuthbert, Lauren Davidson and Kathleen McGovern. Winners of the Scottish awards will be announced at Hampden Park on 28 November.

Watch the highlights:

Weir, 31, improved on her 30th-place Ballon d'Or finish from a year earlier, earning a nomination for the second successive year. She moved from Real Madrid to Lyon during the summer. Her latest placing came on the same day as the Scottish shortlist announcement, bringing recognition in both the international rankings and the awards covering Scottish women's football.

The international player shortlist brings together four Scotland players at clubs outside the Scottish league. Cuthbert represents Chelsea, while winger Davidson plays for Brann. Striker McGovern joined Newcastle United from Hibernian. They will compete with Weir for the Scotland international player of the year honour, with the winner still to be decided.

Glasgow City's Nicole Kozlova is among the four nominees for SWPL 1 player of the year. The Ukraine international was named PFA Scotland player of the season in May and is now in contention for another award. Her fellow nominees are Celtic's Saoirse Noonan, Rangers' Katie Wilkinson and Georgia Timms, who moved from Heart of Midlothian to Ipswich Town during the summer.

Manchester United head coach Eva Olid is shortlisted for SWPL coach of the year after leading Hearts to their first Scottish Women's Premier League title last season. The Spaniard subsequently moved to England's Women's Super League. Having already received the PFA Scotland manager of the season award, she has the opportunity to add a second coaching honour for her work in Scotland.

Olid faces competition from Rangers' Leanne Crichton, Hibernian's Joelle Murray and Spartans' Jack Beesley. Crichton's Rangers finished as runners-up last season and lead the current 2026-27 table, while Beesley guided Spartans back to the top division. The November ceremony will determine which of the four coaches receives the award.
