Madueke's late strike earns Arsenal 1-0 victory at Nottingham Forest
Noni Madueke scored in the 80th minute as Arsenal won 1-0 at Nottingham Forest. The substitute's deflected strike settled a match in which the visitors managed only one shot on target.

Noni Madueke came off the bench to give Arsenal a 1-0 Premier League victory at Nottingham Forest on Sunday, scoring the decisive goal in the 80th minute. The Guardian reported that Arsenal finished with just one shot on target, but the winger's intervention was enough to settle the contest at the City Ground.

Watch the highlights:

Madueke received a pass from Declan Rice, moved infield from the left and struck a shot that deflected off Jair Cunha before beating Matz Sels. Arsenal had struggled to create clear openings against Forest's compact defensive shape. Neither team registered a shot on target before half-time, while Kai Havertz headed over from a Rice free-kick.

Forest continued to threaten after falling behind. Rice blocked an attempt from substitute Chris Wood, Murillo curled a shot off target and Ezri Konsa stopped Liam Delap with a late block tackle. According to the Guardian's report, Forest remained without a home goal this season, extending that frustration to a fifth match at their stadium under Oliver Glasner.

BBC Sport reported that Madueke had replaced Eberechi Eze at half-time, having started only one Premier League match this season. That start came in the previous league outing, a 2-1 victory over Leeds. He also began Tuesday's Champions League win against Lille on the right wing and supplied the assist for the opening goal, before making another decisive contribution against Forest.

The BBC said Christos Tzolis, Arsenal's first-choice winger earlier in the campaign, was unavailable because of a hamstring injury sustained while representing Greece. Madueke's goal was his second in all competitions this season. After the match, Mikel Arteta praised his increased conviction and recent influence, while noting that the team currently needed him on the left despite his greater experience on the right.

The result also continued Arsenal's productive use of substitutes. BBC Sport reported that their replacements had contributed to 26 Premier League goals since the start of last season, more than any other club. Bruno Guimaraes had scored the winner from the bench against Leeds in their preceding league match; this time, Madueke provided the breakthrough.
