Thomas Carty Team Alleges Illegal Blows and Loose Ropes in David Allen No-Contest

Thomas Carty's team has alleged that two illegal punches and loose ring ropes contributed to the Irish heavyweight falling out of the ring during his bout with David Allen at Croke Park. BBC Sport reported that Saturday's contest was declared a first-round no-contest after Carty was unable to continue because of a suspected concussion.

The fight, staged as the co-main event before Katie Taylor's victory over Flora Pili, officially lasted one minute and 22 seconds. According to a statement from Carty's team, the 30-year-old had been struck twice on the back of the head. The team claimed the second blow briefly disoriented him and prompted him to reach for the ropes to recover his balance.

Carty's representatives said the ropes then gave way, sending him headfirst out of the ring and into a ringside table. They said the ringside doctor instructed that the contest be stopped. The team's statement described the second blow, the condition of the ropes and the subsequent impact as the sequence that led to the suspected concussion.

The same statement confirmed that Carty spent time in hospital and underwent a brain scan. He was described as back home and healthy after being assessed. BBC Sport did not report any additional injury diagnosis or provide a timetable for a possible return to boxing.

Allen acknowledged on his YouTube channel that his punch landed behind Carty's head, but said that was not intentional. The 34-year-old from Doncaster said he had aimed around Carty's ear and contended that Carty turned his head as the punch arrived. Allen also said he would probably contact the boxing authorities to ask whether the no-contest could be changed to a victory.

Carty's team statement referred to one minute and 30 seconds having elapsed when describing the incident, while the BBC listed the official duration as one minute and 22 seconds. The confirmed result remains a no-contest, with Carty's representatives making specific allegations about the blows and ropes and Allen disputing that the final punch was deliberate.
