Denmark beat Wales 2-0 as Bellamy accepts Nations League setback

Denmark defeated Wales 2-0 at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen on Sunday, with a Ben Davies own goal and a Gustav Isaksen strike deciding their Nations League meeting. Wales remain without a point or a goal after their opening two Group A4 matches.

According to the Press Association match report published by the Guardian, the breakthrough came in the 53rd minute when Mikkel Damsgaard's free-kick went in off Davies. Isaksen added the second after 66 minutes, reacting to a loose ball following Kieffer Moore's goal-line clearance and scoring with a deflected effort off the underside of the bar.

Denmark had already threatened repeatedly before half-time. Isaksen had an earlier finish ruled out for offside in the build-up, and Damsgaard struck a post. Wales also created an opening before the interval, but Filip Jorgensen saved Connor Roberts' close-range attempt after Brennan Johnson pulled the ball back from the byline.

BBC Sport Wales reported that Craig Bellamy accepted Denmark had deserved their victory. The Wales head coach said the physical challenge had been difficult for his team, while maintaining that regular exposure to Europe's stronger national sides would help his players develop. He also acknowledged his own responsibility to help them improve.

The defeat extended Wales' winless run in 2026 to six matches, according to the BBC. It followed their 1-0 loss to Portugal in Lisbon three days earlier, leaving them empty-handed from the two away fixtures that began this Nations League campaign.

Davies told BBC Match of the Day Wales that conceding from two set-pieces was particularly frustrating. The captain said the standard of opposition left little room for an under-par performance. Sorba Thomas also called for a response, while expressing confidence that the team could make progress.

Wales now return to Cardiff City Stadium for two home fixtures during the same international break. Norway visit on Thursday, 1 October, before Denmark arrive the following Sunday. Bellamy's side will have home advantage for both games as they try to collect their first points of the campaign.
