Urijah Faber

Urijah Christopher Faber was born on May 14, 1979, in Isla Vista, California, to Theo and Suzanne Faber. Growing up in a middle-class family, Urijah was introduced to wrestling at an early age by his father, who had been a wrestler in college. This early exposure to grappling would form the foundation of his future success in mixed martial arts.

During his high school years at Casa Roble High School in Orangevale, California, Urijah excelled as a wrestler, developing the work ethic and competitive drive that would define his professional career. He continued wrestling at the University of California, Davis, where he became a two-time NCAA qualifier and developed his legendary conditioning and mental toughness under the guidance of dedicated coaches.

Urijah's transition to mixed martial arts began in 2003 when he was introduced to the sport through local training partners. His wrestling background provided an excellent foundation, but he quickly recognized the need to develop striking and submission skills. His natural athleticism and dedication to learning made him a quick study, and he began competing professionally within months of starting his MMA training.

The early years of Urijah's career were marked by rapid development and impressive victories on the regional circuit. His explosive takedowns, relentless pace, and granite chin made him a fan favorite wherever he competed. In 2006, he captured the WEC Featherweight Championship, beginning a reign that would establish him as one of the most dominant champions in the organization's history.

Urijah's championship run in the WEC was nothing short of spectacular. He successfully defended his title multiple times against top contenders, showcasing improved striking to complement his wrestling base. As a coach and mentor, he has guided numerous fighters to championship success, including Cody Garbrandt, TJ Dillashaw, and Chad Mendes.
